    Description

Here is a wonderful Japanese silver covered box, most likely a bonbonniere or candy box, typically given to guests invited to an auspicious or celebratory event.  The Japanese adopted the wonderful European tradition of gift-giving which often consisted of small but luxurious candy or confection boxes.
Like many traditions that the Japanese adopted at the time of the Meiji Restoration and Meiji Period, (1868 - 1912), the Japanese transformed the practice into an even more wonderful experience.  What was originally a diminutive container to hold sweets, the Japanese brought in their own artistry and sense of design and created a collection of miniature treasures boxes.
This superbly crafted silver box is in excellent condition without any major condition issues such as cracks, hairlines, losses or restoration.  The base of the silver box is marked with CPO within a diamond shaped outline, SILVER 990 and Toyokoki.
The height of this rectangular shaped box is approximately 0.75 inches
The length of this rectangular shaped box is slightly under 2.25 inches
The width of this rectangular shaped box is approximately 1.5 inches
